How to Make a Nutcracker
posted on 21 Sep 2010
I was perusing the New York Times online (as someone as classy as me is wont to do) and I discovered an article about a little something called Nutcrackers. Nutcrackers are cheap and potent drinks mixed from basically what is on hand, designed to be tasty and potent without all the frou frou. People in places like Harlem mix up big batches of them and sell them on the street or at parties, either by the cup or in sealable plastic bottles.
Shockingly, these unlicensed hooch hawkers aren't very discriminating about who they sell to according to the NYT:
But others in Harlem, including parents and pastors, say they are worried, particularly because of the drink’s potency, popularity with teenagers and easy availability.
“I think adults and young adults are being very selfish and using greed to raise money,” said the Rev. Vernon Williams, an antiviolence activist who sees a correlation between nutcracker sales and youth violence. “And they are taking this toxic combination of multiple high-level alcohols and selling it indiscriminately to anyone who has the $5.”
Oddly, this only makes me want to try it more, so I found this video on YouTube showing how to mix it.
To summarize, that recipe is:
4 parts Bacardi 151
2 parts Skyy Vodka
2 parts DiSaronno Amaretto
2 parts Bacardi
2 parts Bacardi Coconut (or any booze that's coconut flavored)
1 plastic cup unspecified juice
1 KFC Supersize cup of ice
Mix and serve.
